MINNEAPOLIS: A Minneapolis shooting left two people dead and three police officers wounded after gunfire erupted at a downtown apartment building, authorities said.
Police responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 4:30 pm local time on Wednesday and entered the high-rise, where officers found multiple victims.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while four others were taken to hospital. One of those victims later died, bringing the death toll to two.

Three police officers were also hospitalised, including two who suffered gunshot wounds. All three were reported to be in stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Centre.

Police spokesman Garret Parten said the suspected gunman was also dead, although authorities had not immediately determined how the suspect died.
Investigators have yet to establish a motive for the attack or release further details about the other wounded victims.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz thanked emergency personnel and said state officials were assisting local law enforcement.
The Minneapolis attack came amid several recent shootings across the United States.
Earlier Wednesday, authorities said a 19-year-old gunman entered an elementary school in Waynesboro, Virginia, wounded a staff member and later died by suicide.
The incidents followed shootings in Chicago, Illinois, and Trenton, New Jersey, on Sunday that authorities said left at least three people dead and 18 others wounded.
