ISLAMABAD: Thousands of runners across Pakistan and around the globe will lace up their running shoes on Friday to participate in the Run for Pakistan marathon, a nationwide event celebrating the country’s 79th Independence Day with health, unity, and national pride.

The event will take place simultaneously in Pakistan’s three largest metropolitan cities, Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, while Pakistani runners living abroad will be able to participate virtually, ensuring that the spirit of independence transcends geographical borders.

Three cities, three distances, one celebration

The on-ground races will be held at DHA Phase 8 in Karachi, Bagh-e-Jinnah in Lahore, and the PSB Sports Complex in Islamabad, offering participants the option of competing in three distances: 7 kilometers, 14 kilometers, and 21 kilometers.

The varying distances cater to runners of all skill levels, from casual joggers to seasoned marathoners, making the event inclusive and accessible to a wide cross-section of the population.

Special Quaid-e-Azam medal to mark 150th birth anniversary

A special feature of this year’s event will be the Year of Quaid-e-Azam Medal, commemorating 150 years since the birth of Pakistan’s founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The medal has been designed to carry significance far beyond the achievement of completing a race. Organizers described it as a tribute to the legacy of the founding father, with participants receiving a commemorative token that honors Jinnah’s vision and leadership.

“This medal is not just about finishing a race; it is about remembering the principles of unity, faith, and discipline that Quaid-e-Azam instilled in our nation,” an organiser said.
