LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved a plan to provide 5,000 laptops to deserving students in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), in a move aimed at supporting talented students and promoting digital access in the territory.
The Punjab Cabinet has approved the provision of the laptops, which will be distributed among students enrolled in government educational institutions across AJK on the basis of merit.
According to official sources, students studying at public-sector colleges and universities in Azad Kashmir will be eligible to benefit from the initiative. The distribution mechanism will be finalised in consultation with the AJK government after taking into account the number of students, their academic performance and the requirements of educational institutions.
Officials said the scheme was intended to ensure that the maximum number of deserving and talented students benefited from the facility. Student data will be collected from the relevant educational institutions to establish eligibility and formulate a transparent distribution mechanism.

The sources said academic performance would be a key consideration in determining the beneficiaries, while the needs and enrolment strength of individual institutions would also be taken into account. A distribution formula will subsequently be prepared based on the number of students, merit and institutional requirements.
The final procedure for supplying and distributing the laptops will be worked out in coordination with the AJK government following approval by the Punjab Cabinet.
The initiative is expected to provide students in AJK with improved access to digital learning resources and support their academic activities.
