ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Jordan have underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path to de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran.
This came at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem in Amman, a Foreign Office statement said on Wednesday.
They also discussed the deteriorating situation in the Occupied West Bank.
Ishaq Dar appreciated Jordan’s steadfast role in safeguarding the Islamic and Christian Holy Sites in Jerusalem and its continued support for the Palestinian people.

The two leaders also discussed the regional situation, including recent developments relating to Iran and the United States, and underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for de-escalation.
“They reaffirmed close coordination at the bilateral and multilateral levels, including at the UN and the OIC, to promote regional peace and stability,” the Foreign Office said.
The two leaders welcomed the growing momentum in Pakistan-Jordan relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in the political, defence, economic, educational, cultural, and people-to-people spheres, the statement said.
Deteriorating situation in East Jerusalem
Meanwhile, Ishaq Dar also met with the Foreign Minister of Somalia, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, and exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East and the deteriorating situation in East Jerusalem.
The two leaders reviewed the longstanding fraternal ties between Pakistan and Somalia and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in the political, economic, defence, education, and capacity-building sectors, Foreign Office said.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination at multilateral forums.
According to the Foreign Office (FO), Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is visiting Jordan to participate in a ministerial meeting aimed at forging a unified position on the situation in occupied Jerusalem.

The FO said Dar will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their just cause during the meeting, which brings together foreign ministers from Arab League member states and several Islamic countries to discuss the worsening situation in occupied Jerusalem.

Continued incursions by Israeli settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque
Pakistan and several other Muslim-majority countries have repeatedly condemned the continued incursions by extremist Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam’s third-holiest site in occupied East Jerusalem, which Israel captured during the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and later annexed.
The Al-Aqsa compound remains a powerful symbol of Palestinian identity and a recurring flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Under the long-standing status quo, Jewish visitors are permitted to enter the site but are prohibited from praying there. Although Israel maintains that it remains committed to preserving this arrangement, Palestinians argue that the status quo is being gradually undermined.
In June, the foreign ministers of Pakistan and eight other Muslim countries issued a joint statement expressing their categorical rejection of any attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
