TAROUBA, Trinidad and Tobago: Pakistan’s red-ball campaign in the Caribbean begins anew as the national Test squad, led by captain Babar Azam, touched down in Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday ahead of a crucial two-match Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to run from 25 July to 6 August.
The tour marks Pakistan’s first Test assignment in the Caribbean since 2021, when the two sides played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw. With Pakistan languishing at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship standings, the series presents a vital opportunity to revive their campaign and climb the rankings.

The national side arrived at their destination after a long journey from Islamabad via Doha and London. The team will now shift focus to the final phase of their preparations, which includes a four-day warm-up fixture before the Test series gets underway.
Ahead of their departure, the squad completed a rigorous three-day training camp at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, where they also featured in a two-day scenario-based match designed to fine-tune their skills and match-readiness.

The preparations appear to have been thorough, with the team management leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the players are acclimatised to Caribbean conditions before the first ball is bowled.
Warm-up fixture and test schedule
Pakistan are scheduled to play a four-day practice match from 18 to 21 July, which will serve as the final dress rehearsal before the opening Test of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 series.
The first Test will be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba from 25 to 29 July, followed by the second Test at the iconic Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain from 2 to 6 August.
Head to head record
Historically, Pakistan have held a slight edge over the West Indies in the longest format. The two cricketing nations have met in 54 Tests, with Pakistan securing 21 victories compared to the West Indies’ 19. A total of 14 encounters have ended in draws, highlighting the competitive nature of this rivalry.
The upcoming series also carries significant weight in the context of the World Test Championship, with both teams eager to improve their positions in the standings.
Pakistan’s WTC struggles
Pakistan currently find themselves at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 standings, having managed just one victory in four matches while suffering three defeats. They have collected four points with a points percentage (PCT) of just 8.33 – a statistic that underscores the urgency of a strong performance in the Caribbean.
