NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has praised Pakistan’s efforts for promoting peace as he met Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the UN Headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the regional situation, key international developments and Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at helping end conflicts in West Asia.
They also exchanged views on United Nations peacekeeping operations, with particular focus on Pakistan’s longstanding and distinguished contribution to global peace missions.
Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s role in supporting peace and security, acknowledging the country’s commitment to United Nations peacekeeping efforts over the years.
Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan had consistently acted with responsibility despite facing numerous regional and security challenges.
He said Pakistan’s leadership, particularly Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, had pursued a responsible approach to promote regional peace, safeguard human lives and support stability.
Naqvi said Pakistan remained committed to constructive engagement, peaceful resolution of conflicts and cooperation with the international community.
He also underlined the importance of realistic mandates and adequate resources for United Nations peacekeeping missions, saying these were essential for the success of peace operations.
Pakistan has long been among the major contributors to UN peacekeeping missions, with its personnel serving in different conflict zones in support of international peace and security.
The UN Secretary-General thanked Pakistan for its continued commitment and valuable contribution to peacekeeping efforts.
Officials said the meeting reflected Pakistan’s active diplomatic role at the global level and its continued support for peace, dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
