NEW YORK: Pop superstar Taylor Swift and American football player Travis Kelce were married in an intimate ceremony inside New York City’s Madison Square Garden, according to media reports, with details of the closely guarded event emerging on Sunday.

The couple have not released official photographs of the wedding, but giant billboards outside the arena confirmed their marriage with the message “JUST T&T MARRIED!”.

According to media reports, guests said the ceremony took place in a garden specially created inside the arena, transforming the venue more commonly associated with basketball, ice hockey and concerts into a wedding setting.

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos described it on Good Morning America as “a garden inside the Garden”, saying the venue felt “as intimate as it could possibly be given that it was Madison Square Garden”.

“It was hard to imagine that a place that big and a wedding with such stars could feel so personal and so intimate,” he said.

Swift’s representatives said the bride and groom wore outfits designed by Christian Dior but released few additional details. A representative for the singer did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and no official wedding photographs have been made public.

According to ABC News, the couple wrote their own wedding vows and invited neighbours and high school friends alongside celebrity guests.

Co-anchor Robin Roberts said the ceremony featured numerous personalised touches and “was like any wedding that you would attend”.

She also confirmed that singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks performed during the celebrations.

Media reports said around 1,000 guests attended the wedding.

Celebrities seen arriving at or leaving Madison Square Garden included Selena Gomez, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Paul McCartney, Gracie Abrams, Jason Sudeikis and Hugh Grant.

Ceremony details emerge

AMC Theatres Chief Executive Adam Aron, who attended the wedding, shared an account of the ceremony on social media before later deleting the post.

Aron said a section of Madison Square Garden had been transformed into an elaborate garden setting.

He wrote that live violins and a cello accompanied the wedding party as Kelce, wearing a white tuxedo, and Swift, in a white wedding dress with a long veil, entered the ceremony.

Aron said the venue had been decorated to remove any resemblance to a sporting arena and instead resembled an intimate countryside garden.

Joseph Kahn, director of several of Swift’s music videos, also referred to the wedding’s strict no-phones policy, joking on X that he had not been without his phone for so long since 1992.

Following the ceremony, fans gathered outside Madison Square Garden after a bakery delivery van parked near the venue.

Videos circulating on social media showed fans speculating that the vehicle had delivered desserts for the wedding reception, although no connection between the van and the event has been confirmed.

According to reports, a pastry from the van was eventually handed to a fan after being briefly taken by a police officer, prompting cheers from the crowd.
