QUETTA, Pakistan: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has pledged uncompromising action against terrorism, declaring that authorities will act with an “iron hand” against anyone seeking to undermine peace in Pakistan’s largest province.

Speaking at a tribal jirga in the southwestern district of Awaran, Bugti said the fight against terrorism required close cooperation between the government, security forces and local communities. He stressed that lasting peace could only be achieved through a collective effort involving all stakeholders.

“The state, the people and the security forces are united in their resolve to eliminate terrorism and ensure sustainable peace and development,” the chief minister said, adding that those responsible for disrupting public order would face strict and impartial action.

The gathering was attended by Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Balochistan Corps Commander Lieutenant General Rahat Naseem Ahmed Khan, provincial legislator Khair Jan Baloch, tribal elders, political and community representatives, women, students and residents from across the district.

Bugti paid tribute to civilians and security personnel who had lost their lives in the fight against terrorism, describing their sacrifices as vital to maintaining stability in the province.

He said the provincial administration was expanding development projects in Awaran and throughout the Makran division, with priority being given to road infrastructure, essential public services and employment opportunities in underserved communities.

The chief minister added that the government was working closely with security institutions to improve living standards by expanding access to basic facilities and accelerating public welfare programmes.

Highlighting progress under the Balochistan Sustainable Development Initiative (BSDI), Bugti said ongoing projects had already produced visible improvements in the region. He added that the government was evaluating additional measures aimed at addressing long-standing public concerns and promoting sustainable economic growth.

Describing the people of Awaran as peace-loving and committed to development, Bugti said the government would not allow terrorist elements to destabilise the district or derail its progress.

Participants at the jirga, including elected representatives and tribal elders, expressed support for the government’s efforts to strengthen security, protect local communities and advance development initiatives across the province.
