JEDDAH: Experts and specialists have said Saudi Arabia’s water sector reforms and policy initiatives have helped transform the Kingdom’s water scarcity challenges into opportunities for sustainable development.

Speaking during a panel discussion titled “From Water to Food: Turning Scarcity into Security in Drylands” at Saudi Water Week 2026, participants stressed that efficient water resource management is essential to achieving long-term food security, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.

The experts noted that Saudi Arabia has developed an integrated water management system that has improved water productivity in agriculture, strengthened the sustainability of natural resources and contributed to significant growth in agricultural and food production.

The session examined strategies for enhancing water-use efficiency in agriculture across arid and semi-arid regions. It also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s experience in building a comprehensive framework that balances sustainable water resource management with food security objectives.

Participants further discussed the role of the Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) in supporting water and food security initiatives across the Arab region.

The discussions also underscored Saudi Arabia’s strategic shift in water management and the modernisation of its agricultural production systems in line with the goals of the National Agriculture Strategy 2034.
