RIYADH: Saudi aid agency, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), has signed a joint executive programme with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to implement a rural women’s economic empowerment project in Syria under the “Bathraa” initiative.

The agreement was signed at KSrelief’s headquarters in Riyadh by Eng. Ahmed Al Baiz, Assistant Supervisor General of Operations and Programs at KSrelief, and Dr. Abdallah Al Dardari, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Director of UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Arab States, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

The project is expected to directly benefit 520 individuals and indirectly support around 284,320 others. It aims to improve livelihoods and enhance the economic empowerment of rural women through the rehabilitation and development of multipurpose production centres equipped with food-processing facilities, agricultural waste composting systems, marketing kiosks, and renewable energy solutions.

The initiative will also provide rural women with technical, entrepreneurial, and leadership training, along with the necessary tools and equipment to establish income-generating activities and expand their economic opportunities.

The programme forms part of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian and development efforts through KSrelief to support the Syrian people, strengthen rural communities, and improve living conditions for vulnerable families.
