RIYADH: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) has extended its Masam project contract for another year to continue clearing landmines from Yemeni territory, with a total value of $52.53 million.

The project is being implemented by Saudi personnel with international expertise, alongside trained Yemeni teams, to remove mines indiscriminately planted across Yemen, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.

It also includes training and capacity-building programmes for Yemeni staff in mine-clearance operations.

KSrelief Supervisor General Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah said the renewal reflects the centre’s humanitarian commitment to the Yemeni people, noting that landmines have caused deaths, permanent injuries, and disabilities, particularly among children, women, and the elderly.

He said the project has so far cleared 567,182 mines, including anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, unexploded ordnance, and other explosive remnants of war.

Dr. Al Rabeeah also expressed gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continued humanitarian efforts in supporting affected communities worldwide, particularly in Yemen.
