LONDON: English singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran has said that his current tour could mark the beginning of an extended break from music, as he considers stepping back to spend more time with his family.
During the opening night of the North American leg of his LOOP Tour at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the Grammy-winning artist told fans that he is seriously thinking about taking time away once the tour concludes.
“This is gonna be my last time here in a while,” the 35-year-old said on stage. “I might take some time off once this tour has ended and sort of do the dad thing.”
He added, “So if I don’t see you for a while, I love you, thank you for coming,” prompting an emotional response from the audience.
Sheeran, who is known for keeping a relatively private personal life despite his global fame, has two daughters, Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 4.
The singer married to, from wife Cherry Seaborn in 2019 after a long personal history, having first met in childhood and later reconnecting as adults in 2015.
Since becoming a father, Sheeran has often spoken about how family life has changed his priorities and influenced his approach to touring and recording music.
The Shape of You hitmaker has already spent much of 2026 travelling extensively for his tour, which began in New Zealand in January.
He then performed across Australia and South America before arriving in North America for the latest leg of shows, marking months of continuous global travel and performances.
Industry observers note that Sheeran has previously stepped away from music during key points in his career.
He took a break following his Multiply era in 2015, and later paused again between 2019 and 2021 after completing his Divide tour.
In both cases, he returned with new music and renewed creative direction, suggesting that any future hiatus may similarly be a period of rest and reinvention rather than retirement.
While Sheeran has not confirmed any formal plans to step away, his comments have sparked speculation among fans about how long his potential break could last once the current tour cycle concludes.
