WASHINGTON: The United States (US) is finalizing plans to send Abrams Battle Tanks to Kyiv and can make an announcement this week, CNN reported on Tuesday. Three US officials told CNN that the timing of the actual delivery of the battle tanks is not yet clear as it will take months to provide training to troops to use the US-made tanks.

CNN said that an announcement about the battle tanks could be an effort to end diplomatic deadlock with Berlin. Germany said that it would not send its battle tanks to Kyiv unless Washington also agreed to sends its tanks to Ukraine.
The German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on Tuesday that they are preparing their decision on the tanks. Similarly, German media outlet Der Spiegel claimed that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz took the decision to send Leopard tanks to Kyiv.

Sky News Arabia reported that Washington is mulling sending battle tanks to Ukraine. Ukraine’s President Zelensky has been asking its Western allies for tanks to fight against Moscow.
