BEIRUT, Lebanon: Lebanon’s Army Chief General Rodolph Haykal has departed for an official visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the Lebanese military said in a statement.

The Lebanese military said General Haykal’s visit comes at the invitation of Pakistan’s Defence Forces Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as Pakistan intensified diplomatic efforts for regional peace.

Lebanese media had earlier reported that the army chief would travel to Pakistan for talks with Field Marshal Munir.

Lebanon’s LBCI television channel, citing sources, reported on Friday that Haykal was expected to leave for Pakistan within hours to hold talks with Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Meanwhile, the Washington-based bureau chief of Asharq News said in a post on X that the Lebanon Armed Forces Commander is heading to Pakistan to meet Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in the next few hours.

The visit is taking place against the backdrop of ongoing Pakistan-led diplomatic efforts for regional peace and security talks between Israel and Lebanon.

Islamabad continued diplomatic engagement with regional stakeholders and pursued efforts to facilitate negotiations between the US and Iran.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday, where he will hold meetings with senior Iranian leadership, Iranian media reported.

Iranian media reported that Naqvi is scheduled to meet senior Iranian leaders, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during his visit to discuss regional developments and ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.

Naqvi’s Iran visit follows a series of meetings with Iranian officials over recent days, including discussions on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) interior ministers’ meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

On Friday, Naqvi met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and discussed the evolving regional security situation.

“Met my dear brother, H.E. Eskandar Momeni, Interior Minister of Iran again. We reviewed the evolving regional security situation and discussed matters of mutual interest,” Naqvi said in a post on X.

Earlier on Thursday, both ministers also met on the sidelines of the SCO interior ministers’ meeting.
