ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will reduce or eliminate tariffs on imports used by the logistics, construction and pharmaceutical sectors as part of efforts to boost exports, attract investment and accelerate economic growth, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The measures fall under the National Tariff Policy 2025-30, a five-year framework introduced to simplify the country’s tariff structure, lower import duties on industrial inputs and improve export competitiveness.

According to the government, customs duties on reefer containers and semi-trailers will be abolished in phases to support the logistics sector. Duties on specialised construction vehicles and machinery will also be reduced, while customs duties on raw materials used in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly those required for cancer medicines, will be eliminated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the implementation of the tariff policy during a meeting in Islamabad and stressed the importance of export-led growth for the country’s economic future.

“Achieving export-led growth targets is our top priority,” the prime minister said during the meeting.

He also highlighted the role of the National Tariff Commission, describing its efficient and transparent functioning as essential for promoting industry, trade and investment.

The commission is responsible for tariff-related investigations and trade remedies, including anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard measures, while supporting the implementation of national tariff policies.

With inflation easing and foreign exchange reserves improving, the government is increasingly focusing on reviving industrial activity, encouraging investment and expanding exports to support sustainable economic growth.
