ISLAMABAD: An arrested Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist has revealed how young people are recruited into extremist networks through false promises and misleading narratives, while also saying that the group receives support from commanders based in Afghanistan.
According to security sources, Umar Din alias Jazba, who was recently arrested by Pakistani security forces, made the revelations in a confessional statement detailing his involvement with the TTP, referred to by Pakistani authorities as Fitna al-Khawarij.
“I joined the TTP on January 12, 2025, after an argument with my father,” Umar Din said in his statement, describing how he became associated with the group.
The arrested terrorist said that TTP commanders use religious slogans and promises of jihad to attract young recruits.
“Khawarij commanders mislead young people in the name of enforcing Sharia and jihad,” he said.
According to Umar Din, the group maintains links with Afghanistan-based elements. “All Khawarij commanders have 60 to 70 Afghan nationals with them and they have received training in Afghanistan,” he said.
He further admitted that the group receives financial assistance from Afghanistan-based commanders.
“Fitna al-Khawarij receives financial support from Khawarij commanders based in Afghanistan,” he said.
The terrorist also linked the network to terrorist activities inside Pakistan. He said that the group was involved in the attack on the Shadi Khel base and an explosion on the Kohat-Khwaja Road that resulted in the deaths of seven police personnel during Ramadan.
In his statement, Umar Din admitted the group was engaging in criminal activities beyond terrorism.
“This Khawarij group is involved in extortion, vehicle snatching and kidnapping for ransom,” he alleged.
He also said that members of the organisation were involved in drug abuse and other immoral activities, which he said contradicted the group’s public claims and propaganda.
Security analysts said the confessional statement provides insight into the methods used by terrorist organisations to recruit vulnerable individuals and sustain their operations.
Before concluding his statement, Umar Din appealed directly to young people.
“My message to all youth is to stay away from the false claims and propaganda of the Khawarij,” he said.
Security forces said counterterrorism operations against terrorist groups and their facilitators will continue across the country.
