ISLAMABAD: A growing stream of reports and social media campaigns focusing on Baloch-related security developments in Iran has drawn attention to what observers describe as an emerging narrative trend that increasingly places Tehran alongside Pakistan in the spotlight of Israeli and Baloch terrorist organisations’ platforms.

The development comes at a time when Pakistan and Iran have strengthened cooperation on border management, intelligence sharing, and counterterrorism efforts aimed at tackling security threats operating along their shared frontier.

For years, Pakistan has faced criticism from some Baloch nationalist groups and their supporters abroad over counterterrorism operations in Balochistan.

Pakistani authorities, however, maintain that security operations are directed against terrorist organisations, including the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), which has claimed responsibility for several attacks on civilians, security personnel, and public infrastructure.

In recent weeks, several reports and campaigns have highlighted executions of Baloch individuals in Iran’s Sistan-Balochestan province, portraying them as evidence of wider state action against such groups.

Analysts note that narratives being circulated mirror themes that have traditionally been used against Pakistan, while ignoring violent attacks carried out by terrorist groups against state institutions and civilians.

Iranian authorities have stated that several individuals executed in recent cases were convicted of offences including armed rebellion, terrorism-related activities, membership of armed groups, and other serious crimes under the country’s legal framework.

Combating violent extremism and terrorism

Tehran has argued that its actions are aimed at maintaining security and combating violent extremism in a region that has witnessed repeated attacks on security personnel.

Pakistan has faced similar security challenges. During the past few months, terrorists launched coordinated attacks across multiple locations in Balochistan, resulting in the deaths of civilians and security personnel.

Pakistani security forces responded with intelligence-based operations against the terrorists, reaffirming the state’s commitment to eliminating terrorism from the province.

Security experts believe the increasing focus on both Pakistan and Iran reflects a broader regional narrative battle unfolding alongside developments on the ground.

According to analysts, Israeli-linked commentators and supporters of Baloch terrorist groups have increasingly highlighted incidents in Iran using language and arguments previously directed almost exclusively at Pakistan.

Observers say the timing is noteworthy, as it coincides with greater cooperation between Islamabad and Tehran against cross-border terrorist networks that have posed security challenges to both countries.
