ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s parliamentarians and members of the federal cabinet have welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, describing it as a landmark achievement that would strengthen trilateral cooperation and contribute to regional peace, stability and collective security.
In separate statements on Sunday, they emphasised that it reflects the commitment of the three countries to stand united and support one another at all times.
They also paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts and leadership in advancing the agreement.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye signed a joint defence pact on Friday, establishing a collective security framework under which an armed attack against any one member is considered an attack against all three.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the pact during the “Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence”.
Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif were also present at the signing ceremony.
“The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, jointly signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye in Makkah Mukaramma on Friday 7th August 2026, reflects the depth of the brotherly relations between the leadership and peoples of the three countries,” Ishaq Dar said in a post on X.

Agreement to further reinforce regional peace efforts
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said the Agreement will further reinforce peace efforts in the region.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar noted this Agreement is a milestone in the Pak-Türkiye-Saudi Arabia partnership.
Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari said the collective resolve of the three brotherly countries for the cause of peace will enable them to establish strong deterrence against any aggression.
Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja added the leaderships of the three countries have proved that strong leaders bring nations and peoples together.
New era of regional cooperation
Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik described the defence agreement between Pakistan, Turkiye and Saudi Arabia as a major success, saying it could usher in a new era of regional cooperation.
Addressing a corner meeting in Lahore, he said the economic strength of Saudi Arabia, Turkiye’s advanced defence industry and the expertise of the Pakistan Army would collectively contribute to strengthening regional peace, security and cooperation.

Malik said Pakistan was increasingly emerging as a net security provider and would now turn its greater focus towards economic development and growth.
He added that despite the economic challenges facing the country, the government was continuing to take measures aimed at providing relief to the people and improving their economic well-being.
Major diplomatic and defence milestone
Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting, Barrister Danyal Chaudhry has also welcomed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. In a statement, he termed it as a major diplomatic and defence milestone for Pakistan.
He said the agreement marked the beginning of a new era of unity, trust and collective security among the three countries.
He added Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had taken a historic decision that would open new avenues for regional peace and stability.
Danyal Chaudhry said the hard work, sincerity and exemplary leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had played a pivotal role in making the landmark defence agreement possible.
Under the agreement, he said, an armed attack against any one of the three member states would be considered an attack against all three, ensuring that no member country would stand alone in times of crisis.
He said the combined strengths of Saudi Arabia’s robust economy and leadership, Turkiye’s advanced defence capabilities and Pakistan’s experienced armed forces would provide a strong foundation for peace, security and stability.

The Parliamentary Secretary said the positive impact of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement would extend beyond the region, contributing to greater peace, trust and mutual cooperation at the global level.
Meanwhile, Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Rana Sanaullah Khan, Amir Muqam and Talal Chaudhary said the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement will further strengthen the existing cordial ties between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
Others who expressed resounding acclaim for the Agreement included Romina Khursheed Alam, Khael Das Kohistani, Daniyal Chaudhary, Abdul Aleem Khan, Wajiha Qamar, Allama Tahir Ashrafi and Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar.
Shared commitment
In a statement, the Foreign Office said the pact reflects the three countries’ shared commitment to strengthening collective security and promoting peace, security and stability in the region and beyond.

“The agreement is intended to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, and stipulates that any armed attack against any one of the three states shall be regarded as an attack against them all,” it added.
The agreement also provides for the enhancement of all aspects of defence cooperation among the three countries, the FO statement added.
