ISLAMABAD: Nvidia unveiled a powerful new chip for Windows laptops on Monday, taking direct aim at the emerging market for artificial intelligence-powered personal computers and challenging rivals Apple, Intel and Advanced Micro Devices.

Chief executive Jensen Huang introduced the RTX Spark processor ahead of Computex in Taipei, positioning Nvidia to bring its AI expertise from data centres to consumer devices.

The launch marks Nvidia’s latest effort to expand beyond the data centre market.

Globally soaring demand for AI processors has driven record revenues and helped make the company one of the world’s most valuable technology firms.

Industry analysts said RTX Spark could strengthen Nvidia’s position in the premium personal computer segment.

The manufacturers are racing to build devices capable of running advanced AI applications directly on laptops or palm-tops rather than relying heavily on cloud computing.

Speaking at the launch event, Huang said Nvidia and Microsoft had worked closely to optimise Windows for the next generation of AI-powered computers.

“Microsoft and Nvidia are going to reinvent the PC. This is going to be the new PC,” Huang said.

He said RTX Spark-powered systems could handle demanding workloads ranging from digital biology and seismic processing to astrophysics and advanced AI agents.

“If you want to run digital biology, no problem. If you want to do seismic processing, no problem. You want astrophysics, no problem,” Huang said.

The launch intensifies competition in the AI personal computer market. The existing market leaders Apple, Intel and Advanced Micro Devices are also developing processors designed to support increasingly sophisticated AI features.

Nvidia has built its recent success on supplying processors that power AI systems for major technology companies.

With RTX Spark, the company is now seeking a larger role in the consumer market as computer makers introduce a new generation of AI-enabled devices.

Analysts expect laptops equipped with RTX Spark to target high-end users and professionals seeking powerful on-device AI capabilities.
