Pakistan played their first ODI against New Zealand in Christchurch in 1973.
Since then, the team has established itself as one of the most successful sides in the format.
According to official records, Pakistan entered the historic match having played 999 ODIs.
They won 527 matches and lost 442. Nine games ended in ties, while 21 produced no result.
Rich history in the 50-over format
Pakistan’s ODI journey has been marked by several memorable achievements and iconic performances.
The team’s greatest success came in 1992 when it won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup under the leadership of Imran Khan.
Pakistan added another major limited-overs title in 2017 by winning the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.
In the Champions Trophy final, Pakistan produced one of the most dominant performances in tournament history, defeating India by 180 runs at The Oval in London.
The milestone also highlights Pakistan’s enduring presence in international cricket over more than five decades.
India currently hold the record for the most ODI appearances with 1,075 matches, while Australia are second with 1,019.
Before the start of the historic fixture, Australia captain Josh Inglis presented Pakistan skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi with a commemorative souvenir to mark the occasion.
