RIYADH:  Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the hostile missile and drone attacks directed at the State of Kuwait.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry in a statement on Thursday reaffirmed the Kingdom’s categorical rejection of all forms of aggression that violate state sovereignty or threaten the security and stability of the region.

It also expressed full solidarity with the government and people of Kuwait, reaffirming its strong support for all measures taken by Kuwait to safeguard its sovereignty, security, stability, and the safety of its citizens.

Earlier, Kuwait strongly condemned the drone and missile attack it attributes to Iran, calling it a “dangerous escalation”.

In a statement on Thursday, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry expressed its “strongest condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian attacks that targeted the territory of the State of Kuwait with missiles and drones.”

Kuwait’s army said that its air defences had intercepted and destroyed hostile missile and drone threats, without specifying their origin.

The army said that any sounds of explosions heard in the country were caused by air defence systems intercepting incoming threats. It also urged residents to strictly follow safety and security instructions issued by the authorities.

Meanwhile, the UAE, also condemned in the strongest terms “terrorist drone and missile attacks by Iran” targeting Kuwait.

These terrorist attacks constitute a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of Kuwait and a threat to its security and stability, foreign affairs ministry said in the statement.

Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jasem Al-Budaiwi also issued a statement condemning the continued ‘heinous Iranian attacks’ on Kuwait.

The persistence of these treacherous attacks constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the principles of good-neighborliness principles, he said in the statement.
