ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to enhance economic cooperation by optimising the Preferential Trade Agreement and Transit Trade Agreement frameworks.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, on the sidelines of UN Security Council Open Debate in New York, United States, a Foreign Office statement said.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, including respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, while stressing the importance of a stronger Global South voice in shaping a fair and balanced international order.

Both sides praised the long-standing defence partnership and welcomed the growing momentum in bilateral ties under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Ilham Aliyev.
They also agreed to deepen economic cooperation by making greater use of the Preferential Trade Agreement and Transit Trade Agreement frameworks, while expanding collaboration in the energy and LNG sectors.
It is pertinent to mention that Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev last week said that Islamabad and Baku are deepening their bilateral relations within the framework of a trilateral partnership involving Pakistan, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan.
Pakistan and Azerbaijan share deep-rooted fraternal ties grounded in common faith, history, culture, and mutual trust.
The two nations also cooperate closely in various regional and international organisations such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), and the United Nations (UN).
