VANCOUVER, Canada: Pakistan showcased its growing technological capabilities at “Web Summit 2026” in Vancouver, Canada, as a delegation of leading information technology companies sought to expand business partnerships and strengthen the country’s presence in the North American technology market.
The annual global technology conference, being held from May 11 to 14, has brought together innovators, investors, entrepreneurs and industry leaders from around the world.
Pakistan participated through a six-member delegation of IT firms presenting locally developed products and services in sectors including artificial intelligence, financial technology and software-as-a-service (SaaS).
The Pakistan pavilion, sponsored by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), was inaugurated by Pakistan’s Consul General in Vancouver, Shahzad Hussain.
The Consulate General of Pakistan in Vancouver and the Trade and Investment Wing in Canada provided on-ground business-to-business and networking support to facilitate meetings between Pakistani companies and international participants.
The initiative aimed to help Pakistani firms gain access to the Pacific Northwest’s high-growth technology corridor and explore opportunities for partnerships, joint ventures and investment, the Pakistan High Commission in Canada said in a press release.
The Pakistani delegation focused on securing business deals in artificial intelligence, fintech and SaaS sectors across British Columbia and other parts of Canada, while also engaging with international technology companies participating in the summit.
According to the Pakistan High Commission, the participation reflects Islamabad’s broader efforts to expose Pakistan’s fast-growing technology sector to global markets and strengthen links with the North American IT ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Vancouver hosted a “Pakistan-Canada Innovation Corridor” networking event on May 14 in collaboration with the Pakistan-Canada Trade Association.
The event was attended by representatives of Pakistani technology companies, Canadian entrepreneurs, members of the Pakistani-Canadian business community and media representatives.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General Shahzad Hussain said Pakistan’s participation in Web Summit 2026 had provided local IT firms exposure to the Canadian and wider North American market.
He also acknowledged the support of the Pakistan Software Export Board in sponsoring the delegation.
Trade and Investment Counsellor Altamash Janjua briefed participants on opportunities for Pakistan-Canada collaboration in the IT sector.
He said Pakistan’s technology industry remained an important driver of economic growth and export diversification, adding that the country’s global IT exports were expected to reach up to $4.6 billion in 2026.
Participants at the networking event discussed ways to strengthen trade, technology, investment and innovation linkages between Pakistan and Canada.
According to the Pakistan High Commission, Pakistan’s IT exports to Canada reached $117 million in fiscal year 2025, marking a 21 percent increase from $96.5 million recorded in fiscal year 2024.
