Saudi Arabia Announces Zil Hajj Moon Sighting, Eid Al-Adha on May 27

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on 27 May as the crescent moon of Zil Hajj was sighted in the kingdom on Sunday, according to the Supreme Court.

The court in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that the Day of Arafat, the most significant day of Hajj will be observed on Tuesday, May 26.

Millions of pilgrims from around the world gather at Mount Arafat to perform the central ritual of the pilgrimage, spending the day in prayer and reflection.

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, and every Muslim who is physically and financially able is expected to undertake the pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime.

The Supreme Court further announced that that Monday, will be Zil Hajj 1, 1447 AH (May 18).

Eid Al-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates the devotion and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and is celebrated with special prayers, charity, and the sacrifice of animals, with meat distributed among family, friends, and those in need.

The occasion is one of the most important Islamic festivals, bringing communities together in a spirit of faith, generosity, and unity.

Meanwhile Oman, Pakistan, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Tunisia, Indonesia and Malaysia, on Sunday also announced the sighting of Zil Hajj moon, and Eid ul Adha will be celebrated in these countries on May 27.
