ANKARA: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has said that presidential elections would be held on May 14, a month earlier than scheduled.
President Erdogan announced the date for the elections in the country, President’s office said on Saturday. The office of Erdogan also released a video message in this regard. He said, “the elections will be held on May 14”.

Opinion polls show the presidential and parliamentary polls will be tight, and will mark President Erdogan’s main test in his two decades at the reins of Turkey, NATO member and key emerging market economy.

Turkiye’s parliamentary and presidential elections were scheduled to be conducted on June 18 but Erdogan previously hinted that the polls could be brought forward. An office bears of Erdogan’s AK Party had earlier said that polls in June would match with the summer holiday season when people are traveling.
