ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Thursday said Islamabad remains committed to proactive diplomacy and continued efforts for regional peace and stability.

The Deputy PM was addressing a Regional Envoys’ Conference being held from May 14-18 in the Pakistani capital to review regional and global developments as well as its bilateral relations with brotherly countries.

“At a time of evolving regional and global dynamics, Pakistan remains committed to proactive diplomacy, stronger strategic partnerships, enhanced economic cooperation with our brotherly countries, and continued efforts for regional peace and stability,” Ishaq Dar said in a statement.

“I stressed the importance of focused and productive deliberations during the Conference and directed our envoys to present practical recommendations to further advance Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic priorities in the region,” he added.

He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with the envoys, continues to play a leading role in advancing Pakistan’s interests internationally while strengthening the country’s position as a constructive partner for regional peace, connectivity, and shared prosperity.

Pakistan has continued diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington and to de-escalate the ongoing conflict through diplomacy and dialogue.

Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington on April 8 that halted the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

On April 11, Pakistan hosted high-stakes direct talks between the US and Iranian negotiators in Islamabad.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his support for Pakistan’s role as a mediator between Iran and the US.

Speaking on Tuesday, Trump praised Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in helping secure a ceasefire in Iran that came into effect last month.

Trump said Islamabad had played a positive and constructive role in ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

The Islamabad Talks in April between the US and Iran concluded without a final agreement; however, they paved the way for further negotiations between Washington and Tehran to permanently resolve the conflict.
