WASHINGTON: US Senator Chuck Schumer has accused President Donald Trump of drawing the United States into what he described as an “illegal and costly war” with no clear objectives or defined exit strategy, intensifying political tensions in Washington over ongoing military engagement involving Iran.
In a strongly worded statement, Schumer said Democrats would once again force a vote in the Senate aimed at halting the conflict.
He confirmed that lawmakers are preparing to introduce what would be the seventh attempt at advancing a War Powers Resolution this week, calling for the withdrawal of US forces from hostilities linked to Iran.
“The best way to lower costs and end this chaos is to end this illegal war: Democrats are forcing a seventh vote on our War Powers Resolution this week to withdraw US troops from hostilities with Iran,” Schumer stated.
He further warned that if Republicans opposed the measure, they would “continue to bear the blame for Trump’s war,” in a post shared on X.
Trump dragged America into a war—an illegal, costly war without any goals or without any endgame—and has the nerve to call it a “mini-war”

The War Powers Resolution, a legislative mechanism designed to limit presidential authority, requires Congress to approve sustained military operations beyond 60 days.
It was originally introduced to ensure that any extended military engagement receives proper legislative oversight.
Despite repeated efforts by Senate Democrats to advance the resolution, previous attempts have failed to pass, largely due to voting patterns that have remained aligned along party lines in Congress.
The latest effort reflects ongoing partisan divisions over the scope of presidential war-making powers and US foreign policy direction in the Middle East.
