BEIRUT, Lebanon: At least six people were killed and seven others injured after Israeli airstrikes targeted a town in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanese state media, as clashes continued despite an existing ceasefire agreement.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that the strikes hit a residential house in Kfar Dounine late Monday night. The town is located around 95 kilometres south of Beirut.

The wounded were transferred to hospitals in the coastal city of Tyre for treatment, the report added.

Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon have intensified in recent weeks as regional tensions linked to the broader Middle East conflict continue to escalate.

According to Lebanese health authorities, more than 2,800 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict expanded on March 2.

Lebanese officials have recently urged the United States ambassador in Beirut to pressure Israel to stop military operations during the ceasefire period.

On Tuesday, Lebanon’s National News Agency also reported additional Israeli strikes near several southern towns, while the Israeli military issued evacuation orders for residents of Sohmor in the Bekaa Valley region of eastern Lebanon.
