DOHA: The United Kingdom’s Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported an incident involving a commercial bulk carrier that was struck by what it described as an “unknown projectile” in waters near Qatar.
According to the UKMTO advisory, the incident occurred approximately 23 nautical miles northeast of Doha, the capital of Qatar.

The vessel reportedly informed authorities that it had been hit by an unidentified object, which subsequently triggered a small fire on board.
The agency further stated that the crew successfully managed to extinguish the fire, preventing any escalation of the situation. Importantly, no casualties have been reported among those on board the ship.
UKMTO also confirmed that, based on preliminary assessments, there has been no indication of any environmental impact resulting from the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the projectile strike remain unclear, and no further details regarding the source or nature of the object have yet been disclosed.
Maritime authorities will keep monitoring the situation and are expected to investigate the incident further.
