LONDON: Harry Potter is officially returning to screens as HBO moves forward with its highly anticipated television series, confirming a second season even before the first has premiered.

The second season will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, with filming expected to begin later this year.

Meanwhile, the debut season — based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone — is scheduled for release during the 2026 holiday season on HBO and HBO Max.

The new series is being developed as a detailed adaptation of Harry Potter, with each book planned to span an entire season, allowing more room to explore characters, storylines, and magical elements that were only briefly covered in the original films.

Behind the scenes, writer and producer Jon Brown has been promoted to co-showrunner for the second season and will work alongside Francesca Gardiner, who continues to lead the ambitious fantasy project.

The production is also expected to feature updated visual effects, larger world-building elements, and a darker cinematic tone as the story progresses.

The young cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

The adult ensemble features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

Fans around the world are now eagerly awaiting the first season, while excitement is already building for the next chapter of the Wizarding World franchise.

HBO is reportedly aiming to make the series a decade-long television event, with future seasons expected to adapt all seven books in chronological order.

Harry Potter is a globally famous fantasy book series about a young wizard, Harry Potter, who discovers on his 11th birthday that he has magical powers.

He attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he learns magic, makes close friends and battles dark forces led by Lord Voldemort.

The series was written by J. K. Rowling, a British author who published the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, in 1997.

The franchise later expanded into blockbuster films, spin-offs, games, stage plays and theme park attractions, becoming one of the most successful entertainment franchises in the world.
