KARACHI: Pakistan women’s cricket team scripted history on Wednesday by clinching their maiden ODI home series against Zimbabwe with a colossal 206-run victory in the second match of the ICC Women’s Championship at the National Bank Stadium.

The emphatic win, which gives Pakistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, marks the first time Pakistan have won a bilateral ODI series on home soil against Zimbabwe.

Centuries and a record stand power Pakistan to 343

Opting to bat first, Pakistan openers Gull Feroza and Sadaf Shamas produced a historic 189-run partnership, the second-highest opening stand in women’s ODI history. Gull Feroza smashed a brilliant 100 off 95 balls, while Sadaf Shamas contributed a fluent 101 off 112 deliveries.

Sidra Amin remained unbeaten on 59, while late fireworks from Fatima Sana (25 off 13), Aliya Riaz (27 off 14), and Ayesha Zafar (18 off 8) propelled Pakistan to a commanding total of 343 for 4 in their 50 overs.

Zimbabwe crumble under mammoth chase

Chasing a daunting 344 for victory, Zimbabwe’s batting line-up folded for just 137 runs in 39 overs. Captain Fatima Sana led the bowling attack with impressive figures of 3 for 15, while Rameen Shamim and Syeda Aroob Shah claimed two wickets each. Momina Riasat also chipped in with two scalps.

For Zimbabwe, Runyararo Pasipanodya top-scored with an unbeaten 33, but the rest of the batting order struggled against a disciplined Pakistan bowling attack.

Series sealed with a match to spare

With the series already in the bag, Pakistan will look to complete a clean sweep in the third and final ODI on May 9. The historic home series victory marks a significant milestone for Pakistan women’s cricket, showcasing the team’s growing dominance in the ICC Women’s Championship.
