RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday strongly condemned an attack in the vicinity of Khartoum Airport in Sudan.
Saudi Foreign Ministry, in a statement, reaffirmed its firm position, calling for the preservation of Sudan’s unity, its legitimate institutions, the resources of its brotherly people, and its security and stability.
It also stressed the importance of keeping civilian objects and vital facilities away from the conflict.
“The Kingdom calls on all parties to de-escalate, immediately cease these violations, and adhere to the commitments outlined in the Jeddah Declaration of May 11, 2023, regarding the protection of civilians, civilian objects, and international humanitarian law,” the statement said.

The Kingdom also urged Sudan’s neighbouring countries to respect its sovereignty and independence, and to ensure their territories are not used as bases for launching such attacks.
Sudan’s air defences shot down the drone on Monday as it approached the capital’s main airport from the south, with no damage or casualties, Arab News reported, citing Airport officials.
The Sudanese military has been engaged in conflict with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023.
Sudan’s Information Ministry said the airport would resume operations following the completion of standard safety procedures.
