LOS ANGELES: Jacqueline Falk, the daughter of legendary Columbo star Peter Falk, has died by suicide at the age of 60, marking a tragic loss for the family of the television icon.
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that she died by suicide, having hanged herself at a residence in Los Angeles on Monday.
Authorities have not indicated whether she left a note, and details surrounding her final days remain limited.
Jacqueline was one of two daughters adopted by Peter Falk and his first wife, Alyce Mayo, shortly after their marriage in 1960.
While her father became a globally recognised television icon, Jacqueline chose a life away from the spotlight, maintaining a notably private existence.
Her sister, Catherine Falk, took a more public path later in life. Catherine became known for her advocacy around familial visitation rights, especially after her highly publicised estrangement from their father during his later years.
Her efforts contributed to discussions and legislative attention around what is sometimes referred to as “Catherine’s Law.”
Peter Falk and Alyce Mayo divorced in 1976. A year later, he married actress Shera Danese, who frequently appeared alongside him on Columbo.
Danese remained by his side until his death and was appointed his conservator in 2009 following his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease.
Peter Falk, best remembered for his Emmy-winning role as the rumpled but brilliant Lt. Columbo in the long-running TV series Columbo, died in 2011 at the age of 83.
His legacy endures through his work, and his gravestone carries a personal message: “I’m not here. I’m home with Shera.”
