MELBOURNE: The second seed Ons Jabeur has crashed out of the Australian Open after losing to former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova in the second round.

The Tunisian, who climbed up the rankings last year after reaching the final at Wimbledon and the US Open, was beaten 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 on Thursday, once again getting her dreams of reaching the top of the women’s singles ranking shattered.

She racked up 50 unforced errors and had her serve broken eight times during the 102-minute contest.

“Despite the health issues, I will keep fighting and come back stronger and stronger. Time to recover and get healthier,” the 28-year-old said on her Twitter account on Friday.

Djokovic moves to third round

Injury-hampered Novak Djokovic moved into the third round as the Serb ramped up his bid for a 22nd Grand Slam crown with the premature exit of second seed Casper Ruud.

The Norwegian’s second-round exit came a day after Djokovic’s top seed rival Rafael Nadal was knocked out of the grand slam.
