ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkiye on Wednesday stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to settle disputes peacefully.

This came during a phone call between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, according to the Foreign Office statement.

“Both leaders exchanged views on the latest regional developments and reaffirmed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in the peaceful settlement of disputes,” it said.

Ishaq Dar thanked Turkiye for its warm hospitality extended to the Prime Minister and the Pakistani delegation, including himself, during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum last weekend.

He also expressed appreciation for hosting the third R-4 meeting on the forum’s sidelines, which brought together the Foreign Ministers of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan.

It is pertinent to mention that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during a meeting with Prime Minister Sharif on the sidelines of the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum on last Friday praised Pakistan’s peace efforts, adding Ankara would continue to support Islamabad’s diplomatic initiative to bring peace to the region.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that a second round of talks between the United States and Iran could take place “as soon as Friday,” as Pakistan continued relentless diplomatic efforts to bring Washington and Tehran back to the negotiation table.

Speaking to The New York Post, Trump said “good news” regarding renewed negotiations may be coming as soon as Friday, adding that a follow-up round of talks was under consideration.

Sources, cited by The New York Post, touted positive Pakistani mediation efforts with Tehran, renewing the possibility of further peace talks within the next “36 to 72 hours.”
