ISLAMABAD/NEW YORK: David Crosby, a pioneering singer-songwriter whose work with The Byrds and later Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young broadened the scope of rock music, passed away on Thursday, according to his publicist. He was 81 years old.

His publicist, citing a family member, told AFP that he had passed away but did not give an explanation. Jan Dance, the singer’s wife, had disclosed to the media site ‘Variety’ that Crosby passed away after a protracted illness.

“Even though he is no longer among us, his kindness and humanism will serve as a constant example for us. His great songs will live on to perpetuate his legacy. Love, peace, and harmony to all who knew David and those he touched. We will miss him dearly,” his wife said.

The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was a prolific musician

He was renowned for his unconventional guitar tunings, lush harmonies, and esoteric lyrics, as well as for his nonviolent advocacy, raw honesty, and living dangerously.

The vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter at the vanguard of counter-cultural rock wrote many poignant ballads and cutting bangers throughout his six decades in the music business.

Tributes to David Crosby

Tributes were paid quickly to honor the beloved musician with a walrus signature mustache. Brian Wilson, Beach Boys co-founder, said, “I am heartbroken and what to say. He was an unbelievable talent, such a great songwriter, singer, and an amazing person.”

The publicist provided a statement to AFP, saying Stephen Sills said that while he had differences over the years with his former bandmate, Crosby was highly headstrong.

He said that he was happy to be at peace with Crosby. He undoubtedly was a giant of a musician. He believed, “I am extremely saddened at his death and shall miss him beyond measure.”
