ISLAMABAD: Diplomats from several Eastern European missions in Pakistan came together on Sunday to celebrate Orthodox Easter, marking the occasion with a spirit of unity, reflection, and shared tradition.

Orthodox Easter is the most important religious celebration in Eastern Christianity, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is observed by churches such as the Eastern Orthodox Church, including Greek, Russian, and Serbian traditions.

Unlike Western Easter, its date is determined using the Julian calendar rather than the Gregorian calendar, which often results in it being celebrated later.

Dan Stoenescu, Romanian ambassador to Pakistan, in a post on X, expressed his joy over the event, adding that it was a beautiful reminder that faith and friendship transcend borders.

“Great to celebrate Orthodox Easter in Islamabad together with the Embassy of Romania team, alongside our Bulgarian, Serbian, and German friends,” he said.

“From sharing traditional Easter eggs and sweet cozonac to warm conversations, it was a beautiful reminder that faith and friendship transcend borders,’ he further added.

Dan Stoenescu went on to say Islamabad truly lives up to its name as a city of peace, hosting important talks and dialogue.

He said this while referring to Pakistan-mediated talks between the United States and Iran that concluded in Islamabad on Sunday.

“Moments like this quietly reinforce what diplomacy is truly about: building trust, understanding, and human connection,” he noted.

Meanwhile, a small Christian community in Pakistan also celebrated Orthodox Easter, particularly those belonging to the Eastern Orthodox Church and other Orthodox traditions.

The celebration includes midnight liturgies, prayers, and joyful hymns marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Families also gather privately to share festive meals after the Lenten fasting period, following traditions similar to Orthodox communities worldwide.
