ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar spoke over the phone with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas on Wednesday, during which the two leaders voiced concern over serious violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon.

During the call, they emphasised the importance of its full implementation of the temporary ceasefire in the Middle East, a Foreign Office statement said on Thursday.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs also reaffirmed the EU’s support for Pakistan in its efforts to promote peace and stability.

Israeli forces launched one of their most extensive bombardments in recent months, targeting multiple areas across Lebanon, including Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, Mount Lebanon, Sidon, and southern villages.

According to Lebanon’s Civil Defence, at least 254 people were killed and 1,165 others wounded in the strikes.

Pakistan Denounces Israeli Strikes on Lebanon

Earlier, Pakistan issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing military strikes on Lebanon, warning that the escalation risks derailing international efforts aimed at restoring stability in the Middle East.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said Islamabad “condemns in the strongest terms” the continued Israeli attacks, which it noted have resulted in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction of infrastructure.

The statement emphasised that such actions not only endanger innocent lives but also undermine broader diplomatic initiatives to secure peace in the region.

It described the strikes as a “blatant violation of international law and fundamental humanitarian principles”.

The latest hostilities have also cast uncertainty over a fragile ceasefire arrangement linked to recent diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran.

Confusion persists over whether the truce extends to Lebanon, with Israel maintaining that its operations fall outside its scope.

The Israeli military described the assault as its largest coordinated attack since the start of its latest military operation on March 2, claiming it targeted more than 100 Hezbollah command centres and military sites.

The intensifying conflict has raised fears of a broader regional confrontation, complicating already delicate diplomatic engagements and increasing pressure on international stakeholders to intervene swiftly.
