ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing military strikes on Lebanon, warning that the escalation risks derailing international efforts aimed at restoring stability in the Middle East.
In a statement, the Foreign Office said Islamabad “condemns in the strongest terms” the continued Israeli attacks, which it noted have resulted in significant civilian casualties and widespread destruction of infrastructure.
The statement emphasised that such actions not only endanger innocent lives but also undermine broader diplomatic initiatives to secure peace in the region. It described the strikes as a “blatant violation of international law and fundamental humanitarian principles”.
Calling for immediate international intervention, Pakistan urged the global community to take “urgent steps” to halt the aggression and prevent further deterioration of the situation.
Reaffirming its position, Islamabad expressed unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Lebanon, reiterating support for the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its right to peace and stability.
The condemnation comes amid a sharp escalation in violence, as Israeli forces launched one of their most extensive air offensives on Lebanon in recent months. The strikes targeted multiple locations, including the capital Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and areas in southern Lebanon.

According to Lebanese civil defence authorities, at least 254 people were killed and more than 800 injured in the bombardment, marking a significant rise in casualties and intensifying humanitarian concerns.
In response to the mounting toll, Lebanese authorities declared a national day of mourning, with public institutions closed and flags flown at half-mast to honour those killed and injured in the attacks.
The situation further escalated when Hezbollah reportedly fired rockets towards Israel, describing the move as retaliation for what it termed a breach of an existing ceasefire understanding.
The latest hostilities have also cast uncertainty over a fragile ceasefire arrangement linked to recent diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran. Confusion persists over whether the truce extends to Lebanon, with Israel maintaining that its operations fall outside its scope.
The intensifying conflict has raised fears of a broader regional confrontation, complicating already delicate diplomatic engagements and increasing pressure on international stakeholders to intervene swiftly.
