ISLAMABAD: Meta has introduced a new artificial intelligence model, Muse Spark, marking its first major release since restructuring its Superintelligence Labs division.
In a blog post, the company said it had rebuilt its AI infrastructure over the past nine months, positioning the new model as faster and more capable than its previous offerings. Muse Spark replaces Llama 4, which was launched last year but struggled to keep pace with competing models from global rivals.
The latest system is designed to be compact and efficient, while still capable of handling complex queries across areas such as science, mathematics and healthcare. It will power Meta’s AI applications, including its smart glasses and features across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. For now, the model is available only in the United States.

Muse Spark is the first in a planned series of AI models, with further iterations already under development. The release comes as Meta intensifies efforts to compete in a rapidly evolving AI landscape, where companies from the United States, China and Europe are advancing quickly.
The launch follows a major shake-up within the company’s AI division led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The restructuring included high-profile departures, such as longtime research head Yann LeCun, and a renewed focus on recruiting top talent from leading tech firms.
Zuckerberg has made the pursuit of “superintelligence” a central goal, hiring senior figures from competitors including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, and bringing in Scale AI co-founder Alexandr Wang to lead the newly formed unit.
Meta said its long-term vision is to develop highly personalised AI systems that go beyond answering questions to better understand users’ needs and daily lives.
