ISLAMABAD: Accepting Pakistan’s suggestion of a two-week ceasefire, US President Donald Trump has announced that he agrees to suspend attacks on Iran, hours before his earlier deadline early on Wednesday.
The US President made his critical decision public on his own social media platform, Truth Social, and said, based on his conversations with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Force and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir…”I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.”
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double-sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East. We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two-week period will allow the Agreement to be finalised and consummated. On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the Countries of the Middle East, it is an Honor to have this Longterm problem close to resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
Following the US President’s post on his Truth Social, Iran also issued a reciprocal statement instantly confirming the ceasefire brokered by Pakistan. Thanking Pakistan’s civil and military leadership by name, as did the US President, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Syed Abbas Araghchi took to X and posted a ceasefire confirmation from the Iranian forces.

As a true peacemaker, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz took pride in announcing the ceasefire after confirmation from both sides. He also took to X to post a message on this glorious success of Pakistan’s diplomacy. In his capacity as the mediator, he announced that Iran, the US and their allies have agreed to an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon and elsewhere.
With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

The Prime Minister, earlier by midnight, said mediation efforts in the Middle East conflict were progressing strongly, while urging a two-week pause in hostilities and an extension of the United States deadline to allow diplomacy to succeed.
In a post on his official X account, Shehbaz Sharif said: “Diplomatic efforts for peaceful settlement of the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing steadily, strongly and powerfully with the potential to lead to substantive results in the near future.”

The statement came as a deadline set by Donald Trump for Iran approaches, raising fears of escalation in the Middle East.
Sharif urged Washington to extend the deadline, saying, “To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks.”
Sharif also called on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for the same period as a gesture of goodwill, and urged all parties to observe a ceasefire.
“Pakistan, in all sincerity, requests the Iranian brothers to open the Strait of Hormuz for a corresponding period of two weeks,” he said, adding that all sides should “observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war.”
Global markets have promptly reacted to the peace breakthrough mediated by Pakistan. With the breaking news, crude oil prices tumbled sharply, and the equity markets began to recover with news of the reopening of the major oil transit route, the Strait of Hormuz.
