LAHORE: Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has dismissed speculation about his retirement from T20 International cricket, confirming his intention to continue representing the national side in the format.
The 35-year-old revealed that he had briefly contemplated stepping away from T20Is after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which was held in India and Sri Lanka. However, he has since changed his mind and is now focused on ending his career on a strong note.
“After the World Cup, I had decided to retire from T20 cricket. However, I no longer intend to retire and want to finish my T20 career on a high note,” he said.
Zaman has been a consistent performer for Pakistan in the shortest format, featuring in 120 matches and scoring 2,494 runs at a strike rate of 132.51, including 14 half-centuries.
He has also delivered impressive performances in the Pakistan Super League for Lahore Qalandars, where he has amassed over 3,000 runs in 99 matches.
Recently, Zaman was handed a two-match suspension for a Level 3 offence related to ball-tampering during a PSL fixture against Karachi Kings. Despite denying the charges and requesting a full hearing, the league’s technical committee upheld the ban after reviewing the evidence.
