LAHORE: Veteran batter Sharjeel Khan has reaffirmed that playing for Pakistan remains his top priority following his return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after a two-year gap.

Speaking after the match, Sharjeel reflected on his journey, emphasising the importance of taking opportunities, gaining experience and maintaining fitness as a professional cricketer.

“Look, being a professional player, the first thing is that whenever you get an opportunity, you should definitely avail it. If you don’t take different experiences, you cannot learn. So, whenever an opportunity came, I made sure to avail it,” Sharjeel said.

He also highlighted the effort he put in during his time away from the PSL, focusing on improving his fitness and readiness for a comeback.

“As for this comeback, during the two-year gap in the PSL, I worked a lot on my fitness. My aim has always been that whenever I get a chance, I perform well. To give you clarity, I only play in the USA when I am available,” he revealed.

Overseas cricket

Addressing speculation about his future, Sharjeel made it clear that he has no intention of settling abroad or committing to overseas cricket long-term.

“Whenever I play a tournament there, I return afterward. I have no plans to settle in the USA or to permanently play for any team there. My priority has always been to play for Pakistan, and now that things have started again, I will continue to give my best,” he concluded.

Sharjeel, who has represented Pakistan across all formats, last played a T20I in August 2021 against the West Indies.

Despite his return, his 51-run knock was not enough to secure victory, as Hyderabad Kingsmen fell short against Multan Sultans.

Batting first, the Kingsmen posted 225-5, powered by half-centuries from Maaz Sadaqat and Sharjeel. However, Multan Sultans chased down the 226-run target comfortably, thanks to Sahibzada Farhan’s unbeaten 106, supported by contributions from Steve Smith and Shan Masood.
