LAHORE: Saim Ayub reached a significant milestone in the Pakistan Super League on Wednesday after completing 1,000 runs in the tournament during Hyderabad Kingsmen’s match against the Multan Sultans at Gaddafi Stadium.
The 23-year-old left-handed opener achieved the landmark in Kingsmen’s third match of the PSL 11 season when he struck bowler Shehzad Gul for a boundary off the first delivery of the innings.
The achievement makes Ayub the 28th batter in PSL history to cross the 1,000-run mark.
Ayub joins an elite list of players in the league that includes Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik and Sarfaraz Ahmed, all of whom have previously surpassed the milestone in the competition.
He also became the first Hyderabad Kingsmen batter to reach the 1,000-run mark in the PSL.

Despite achieving the milestone while representing Kingsmen, most of Ayub’s runs in the league came during his stint with the Peshawar Zalmi.
He scored 860 runs for Zalmi across three seasons between 2023 and 2025.
Saim Ayub’s early PSL career
Ayub made his PSL debut for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2021 edition.
During that season, he scored 114 runs in seven innings at an average of 16.28 with a strike rate of 108.57.
Apart from his batting contributions, Ayub has also made an impact with the ball.
The part-time spinner has claimed 14 wickets in the PSL, with a bowling average of 30.42 and an economy rate of 7.88.
At the time this report was filed, Ayub was unbeaten on 13 runs, taking his overall PSL tally to 1,012 runs in the 44th match of his PSL career.
High expectations after record signing
Ayub’s all-round abilities made him the most expensive local player in the league’s history.
He was signed directly by the Hyderabad Kingsmen for Rs126 million ahead of the first-ever PSL players’ auction last month.
However, the young batter has yet to deliver consistently for his new franchise in the current season.
He scored 17 in the Kingsmen’s opening match against the Lahore Qalandars and followed it with eight runs against the Quetta Gladiators.
