ISLAMABAD: Lahore Qalandars opener Fakhar Zaman has lodged an appeal against his two-match suspension after being found guilty of a Level 3 breach of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Code of Conduct.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had imposed the ban on Monday following an incident during Qalandars’ match against Karachi Kings at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

The controversy unfolded in the closing moments of the game, when on-field umpires penalised Lahore by awarding five runs to Karachi and ordered a ball change before the final over of the innings.

Match officials, including umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Afridi, television umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed, subsequently reported the matter against the left-handed batter.

Full disciplinary

Zaman rejected the allegations and sought a full disciplinary hearing under the PSL Code of Conduct. The hearing was conducted by match referee Roshan Mahanama, who examined the available evidence and granted the player an opportunity to present his case.

Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, along with team director Sameen Rana and manager Farooq Anwar, were also present during the proceedings.

The batter was charged under Article 2.14, which pertains to “changing the condition of the ball in breach of clause 41.3 of the PSL Playing Conditions.”

A Level 3 offence carries a suspension ranging from one to two matches.

Qalandars are scheduled to face Multan Sultans on April 3 in Lahore, followed by a match against Islamabad United on April 9 in Karachi.
