KARACHI: Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed that all-rounder Cameron Green has been prohibited from bowling during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to a lingering lower-back injury.
The board clarified that the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise was kept fully informed about the player’s condition and the restrictions placed upon him.
The statement from Cricket Australia followed remarks made by KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane following his team’s six-wicket loss to the Mumbai Indians.
When asked why Green had not bowled in the match, Rahane directed inquiries to the Australian cricket board, saying, “Ask Cricket Australia.”

Green, 26, was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 25.2 crore ahead of this season, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL history.
However, his bowling workload has been strictly managed as he recovers from a back ailment.
“Cameron has a lower-back injury, which is being managed, but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period,” a Cricket Australia spokesperson said.
“Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to returning in around 10-12 days’ time. KKR has been communicated with and is fully aware of this information.”
Ongoing recovery from back issues
Green has not bowled in a competitive match since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which wrapped up earlier this month.
His recent absence from bowling duties follows an extended period of recovery; he previously underwent surgery for a stress fracture in his back and did not bowl for 12 months between September 2024 and October 2025.
Despite the current restrictions, Rahane expressed hope that Green would soon return to bowling, which he believes would strengthen the team’s balance.
“I think when hopefully Green starts to bowl soon, the combination will be slightly different,” Rahane said during the post-match presentation. “At the moment, we have to see the balance and who can bowl well for us. Batting-wise, as I said, we batted really well, but finding that balance with the ball is really important. So, hopefully, Green starts to bowl soon, [and] then we can find out whether the combination will be okay.”
