LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a Rs 20 million fine on fast bowler Naseem Shah following a disciplinary inquiry into a controversial social media post.
The decision was announced on Monday after the player appeared before a three-member disciplinary committee for a personal hearing.
Breach of contract and social media guidelines
According to the PCB, the 23-year-old pacer was found to have violated multiple clauses of his central contract as well as the board’s social media regulations.
The disciplinary proceedings were initiated after the board issued a show-cause notice to Naseem on March 27, outlining the alleged violations and seeking his response.
Following a review of his reply, a personal hearing was conducted on March 30, after which the committee reached its verdict.
In an official statement, the PCB confirmed the outcome: “Whilst noting the unconditional apology tendered, Naseem is found to have breached various clauses of his Central Contract and a fine of Rs 2o million has been imposed.”

The statement also noted that Naseem had terminated his social media adviser, who has since been blacklisted by the board from working with any player under PCB jurisdiction.
The board reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professional standards and contractual obligations, stating that the integrity of the game remains a top priority.
Player cited hacking as explanation
Naseem Shah claimed that his account had been compromised. He took to the platform to reassure his followers, stating: “This account of Naseem was recently hacked but now recovered successfully.”
The fast bowler maintained that the controversial post was not a personal statement but rather the result of a security breach.
Despite the unconditional apology and the explanation of hacking, the PCB proceeded with disciplinary action, emphasising that players remain accountable for content published through their official channels under the terms of their central contracts.
