LAHORE: Shamyl Hussain and Hassan Nawaz produced crucial knocks to help Quetta Gladiators post a competitive total against Hyderabad Kingsmen in their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 encounter at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

After being put in to bat, the Gladiators managed 174-8 in their 20 overs, despite early setbacks. Openers Saud Shakeel and Shamyl Hussain began positively, but Riley Meredith provided an early breakthrough by dismissing the skipper for four off as many balls, leaving Quetta at 21-1.

Meredith struck again shortly after, removing Rilee Rossouw for a duck, further denting the Gladiators’ progress. In response, Shamyl partnered with Hassan Nawaz to rebuild the innings, guiding the team past the 50-run mark with a steady approach.

The pair added a valuable 89-run partnership, easing pressure and keeping the scoreboard moving. Shamyl impressed with another half-century, scoring 54 off 41 deliveries, including three fours and three sixes, before Meredith claimed his wicket.

Hassan continued the momentum, registering his fourth PSL fifty, while Khawaja Nafay provided brief support. However, Maheesh Theekshana shifted the momentum by taking two quick wickets, dismissing Nafay and Ben McDermott in the same over.

In the closing stages, Tom Curran accelerated the scoring with a quick 31 off 18 balls. Akif Javed struck twice in the final over, removing Curran and Alzarri Joseph. Abrar Ahmed’s late cameo ensured Quetta reached a competitive total.
