ABU DHABI: A fourth Pakistani national has been killed in the United Arab Emirates after debris from a missile interception fell in Abu Dhabi, authorities said on Thursday, highlighting the growing risks to civilians amid regional conflict.

The incident occurred in the Sweihan Street area of Abu Dhabi when debris from a ballistic missile, intercepted by air defence systems, struck the ground, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

In a post on X earlier in the day, the media office said that an incident “involving falling debris” from the interception of a ballistic missile resulted in “deaths of two unidentified individuals, three injuries, and damage to a number of cars”. It said that the incident occurred on Sweihan Street.

Later in another post on X, the media office said the incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals, identified as Pakistani and Indian nationals, while three others — of Emirati, Jordanian and Indian nationality — were injured.

“The public is advised to obtain information only from official sources and to avoid spreading rumours or unverified information,” it said.

The Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi confirmed the death of the Pakistani national and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.

“In this difficult time, we stand with the bereaved family, offering our heartfelt condolences and prayers,” the embassy said, adding that it was in close coordination with UAE authorities to facilitate the repatriation of the body.

Officials said arrangements were under way to transport the deceased to Pakistan for burial.

Death of Pakistani nationals

The latest fatality brings the total number of Pakistani nationals killed in similar incidents in the UAE to four since the escalation of the conflict in the region.

Earlier, a Pakistani national was killed on February 28, the day the conflict began, in Abu Dhabi.

Another was killed in Dubai’s Al Barsha area on March 8, followed by a third fatality in Abu Dhabi’s Bani Yas area on March 17, all due to falling debris from intercepted missiles.

Authorities have also reported injuries in previous incidents. On March 6, falling debris from an intercepted drone injured several individuals, including Pakistani and Nepalese nationals.

The incidents come amid ongoing hostilities following strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 287, which have triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the region.

Iranian strikes have targeted Israel as well as various Gulf countries, increasing risks for civilians, including expatriate communities.
