ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nawaf bin Saeed Ahmad Al-Malkiy has described Pakistan’s peace efforts as “vital” amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, while condemning Iranian attacks on Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries as “illegal and destabilising”.

In a special message, the Saudi ambassador said the Iranian attacks constituted an “unjustified assault” on sovereign states not party to the conflict and a clear violation of international law and United Nations principles.

“The region is witnessing Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Gulf countries,” the Saudi Ambassador said.

The Saudi Ambassador maintained that the situation in the region is very worrying. “These attacks represent an unjustified attack on self-governing countries that are not a part of any conflict.”

Ambassador Al-Malkiy warned that Iranian strikes targeting civilian areas, including residential buildings and critical infrastructure, had caused casualties among multiple nationalities and posed serious humanitarian and economic risks, particularly by threatening stability around the Strait of Hormuz and global energy security.

“Residential areas and residential buildings, including airports, hotels, and infrastructure, are also affected. This is a scene that reflects the danger of these violations and their humanitarian implications,” Ambassador Al-Malkiy said.

The Saudi Ambassador said that it is also dangerous for the Iranian attacks to spread globally, as the Strait of Hormuz, where not only ships pass, but also the interests of the world, the stability of the economy, and the security of its energy.

Ambassador Al-Malkiy said that the danger is not only regional, but also humanitarian. “It affects the lives of people and their right to stability and prosperity.”

Al-Malkiy said that the security of the countries is not shared, and the stability of the region is a shared responsibility. “Respecting international law is not an option, but a necessity to protect our future.”

The Saudi Ambassador urged collective efforts to uphold international law and support diplomatic solutions.

“We emphasise the responsible position taken by the government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, with its continuous and wise efforts to contain the crisis and work to resolve it in a peaceful way,” Ambassador Al-Malkiy said while appreciating Pakistan’s peace efforts.

“This reflects Pakistan’s commitment to its role as a builder in supporting regional security and stability,” the Saudi Ambassador said.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia believes that wisdom and international cohesion are the way to overcome these crises, and that standing with humanitarian principles is the best way to strengthen security and peace,” Ambassador Al-Malkiy concluded.
